Buwen’s African Import

Mrs. Rachel Buwen Johnson, a native of Liberia and  the Sole Proprietor of Buwen’s African Imports is a graduate of Penn Valley Community College school of Fashion Design & Merchandising located in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon attaining a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising, Buwen as she is commonly called saw the need to open an ethnic specialty store in Independence, Missouri in May of 2006 specializing in the hand sewing and selling of African and South Pacific Islanders clothing, as well as clothes made in Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Liberia, Mali, Senegal and South-East Asian countries. Buwen promotes the business and African culture by participating in speaking  at schools and churches promoting African cultures and sponsoring cultural activities such as the Kansas City Ethnic Enrichment Festival held annually, and cultural activities at Bruce WatkinsCultural Center where she displayed Authentic African Ceremonial Masks, etc.
